The Avenue Thrift Shop at 719 W. Jefferson St. in Sprinfield, IL suffered a fire on March 7 that caused smoke damage inside their store. Insurance wouldn't pay to clean the clothing in the store, which sells donated clothing and other items to benefit several local social service agencies. When Paris co-owner Shep Franke heard of their plight, he offered the services of Paris Dry Cleaners to clean the clothing without charge. “It’s just neighbors helping neighbors in the business community,” said Shep. “Whatever it takes is what we’re doing."
The Avenue Thrift Shop is finishing the clean-up work at their store a week early and expect to be open for business Friday 3/20 or Saturday 3/21. They are appealing to the public for donations of spring and summer clothing and furniture so the shop has a full inventory when it reopens in a couple of weeks.
